I love a good front door. It’s an area of the home that I feel comfortable being bold with in choices and a place to really let your style be seen. When choosing the door profile, color, and hardware for our door for this front porch makeover, I had a few things to consider. One– we were not going to repaint the house so I had to choose something that would go with the existing color. Two– we have gridded windows all across the front of the house so I had to select a door profile to compliment the windows.
The original doors had fan windows that were dated and not to our taste. You can see how the front porch looked before, here and here. So, I picked a classic paneled door with square gridded windows to go with the style of the home and to update the overall look. The original doors were also painted a warm white and I wanted to add in a splash of color. I was torn between timeless black, traditional red, and a shade of blue and ultimately went with Benjamin Moore’s Philipsburg Blue. I’m SO happy with the decision. It’s the perfect shade of blue with the color of the house and I love the coastal feel it lends to the entryway.
I went with brass hardware from Emtek and this fun pineapple knocker for the door. I layered this doormat on top of this outdoor rug and love the warmth they bring to the stone porch. I found the bench on Joss & Main and the throw pillows are from Pottery Barn. I searched for outdoor pillows for quite a while and couldn’t quite find the right ones until I stumbled upon this woven pom pom pillow and this double sided floral/stripe pillow.
Updating our front porch really gave a whole new feel to the front of our house. I just love how our front porch makeover turned out!
