I’m such a homebody so weekends spent leisurely in bed and lounging around the house are my favorite. Granted those days still start around 6:00am with a 3-year-old, but pretty soon they’re going to be even fewer and farther between with a newborn so I’m enjoying these last few calm weekends. I’m always curious about new products and love to see what other people are using so today I thought I’d share my current morning skincare routine. It’s pretty basic and there are a lot of products I’m holding off on trying because they’re not pregnancy safe but I have added a couple new items into the mix that I thought I’d review for you. And, Hello Mello reached out and was kind enough to send over some super cozy loungewear/sleepwear that I thought would be a perfect fit for me and this topic. I pretty much live in loungewear and when I do wear more structured clothing, I change into loungewear or pajamas the minute I get home. Dave can attest to that. He always laughs at how quickly I get out of “real” clothes and into comfy ones. These Hello Mello pieces are SO soft and comfortable, I ended up keeping the heather gray set on all day after we shot these photos.
For reference, I’m 5’2 and wearing a size small in all the pieces. I went with my normal size and because of the flowy and stretchy nature of the pieces, they fit my 35+ week bump and will fit postpartum as well. I love being able to wear non-maternity clothes while pregnant. It’s just so much more practical than buying a bunch of maternity-wear.
Now, on to my morning skincare routine. I alternate between Glamglow Supercleanse and Beauty Counter’s Charcoal Cleansing Bar but I really like the Glamglow cleanser the best. I’ve tried quite a few cleansers and this one just feels like it’s clearing and detoxifying and I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. The charcoal cleansing bar is all natural however and does leave my skin with a clean feeling so I try to alternate, especially during pregnancy. I follow my cleanser with Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion which I’ve been using for years. It’s simple, fragrance-free, and good for all skin types. One of the new products I recently incorporated into my morning skincare routine is Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen. I had been searching for a daily SPF that didn’t leave my face feeling greasy or like I’m about to head to the pool and this one has been a game changer for me. It’s a clear formula, dries with a matte finish, and feels more like a primer than a sunscreen. With SPF 40, it’s perfect for daily use and I’ve noticed that my face has a more matte look throughout the day since I started using it which I’m so happy about because I’m always trying to combat shine.
My next step is applying Benefit’s Porefessional primer. It’s one of those holy grail beauty products for me and it really does smooth out my face. I don’t ever put on makeup without it anymore because it just doesn’t go on as evenly and I can see such a difference. You can put it on over makeup for touch-ups throughout the day too. I couldn’t recommend it more. The next step in my morning skincare routine is a new one and I’m not sure if I’m sold yet. Dr. Brandt’s Needles No More eye de-puffing gel has been spreading around the blogosphere like wildfire and some people say it’s an absolute necessity while others haven’t seen that much of a difference. I think it truly depends on what you’re trying to combat in terms of under-eye issues. I don’t really get dark circles and haven’t tried many under-eye products but I will say that I like the cooling and tightening effect it has. It’s also tinted slightly orange so if you do have dark circles, I think it would be a good corrector for under concealer. My true test is going to be when I’m getting zero sleep in a few weeks so I’m going to continue using it and see how it works during those sleepless newborn nights. I’ll keep you posted 😉 Lastly, I swipe on some good old-fashioned drugstore Cherry Chapstick. I’ve been using it forever and really like the consistency. I reapply throughout the day but always put it on in the morning after I brush my teeth and at night before bed.
Let me know if you’d be interested in posts about my nighttime skincare routine and daily makeup routine. They’re both fairly simple but there are some masks I’ve been loving and makeup products that are tried and true. Like I said, I’m always curious to see what people use and learn about new products so I would be happy to share mine with you! I hope you enjoyed my morning skincare routine 🙂
